Mindfulness and Anger

Mindfulness and Anger

When a desire with attachment is thwarted or denied, it turns to anger. Anger arises from dissatisfaction, from not getting what you want or getting what you don’t want, from the expectation unfulfilled. You become more and more attached to your expected outcome and when it doesn’t arrive you get angry. You seek wholeness, completion, and happiness in the fulfillment of desire with attachment and are constantly in dissatisfaction. Dissatisfaction is the main form of suffering. Dissatisfaction and anger arise from feeling limited, betrayed, from not speaking up, from being pushed around, by not being seen or heard, by being passive and feeling futility. It starts as resentment. Resentment turns into frustration. Frustration turns into anger and becomes rage when not addressed.

Self-Forgiveness and Shame

Self-Forgiveness and Shame

Transformation is bringing what is hidden into awareness and feeling it. How do you really feel about yourself? Do you ever feel you are unworthy or unlovable? What lies beneath these feelings? Do you remember times when you made a mistake, forgot something important, broke a vow, crashed the car, lost your keys, got really angry, failed a test, got lost in addiction, told a lie? Were you filled with guilt and shame? Did this make you feel you were not good enough? And underneath all of it, is there sadness? Maybe some fear?

Mindful Happiness: How to Cultivate Joy Out of Chaos

Mindful Happiness: How to Cultivate Joy Out of Chaos

I feel very happy today.

I’m not sure why, though. Chaos swirls around me like the tornado that took Dorothy’s house in The Wizard of Oz. Yes, that’s how I feel. Like Dorothy. Sitting on my bed watching all this craziness spin around me, slightly out of reach but still there. There’s family drama, which we all know and love. Then there’s all the outside stimuli that may not be directly affecting us, but touches us as a collective human unit – poverty, racism, hate speech, political unrest. And, then, there’s the darn squash bugs that keep killing my zucchini. I admit squash bugs aren’t the best example of chaos, but chaos is subjective.

Mindfulness and Worry

Mindfulness and Worry

Worry is born from a lack of trust. You have tried to control life, especially when you feel insecure and vulnerable. When you feel your life is unstable you begin to project into the future and worry. You lose trust when you lose stability, when you lose connection to a strong foundation inside. You imagine all the negative possibilities; poverty, homelessness, being alone. You stoke fear-based energies. These arise when you feel disconnected internally and fear arises.

Living life in peace

Living life in peace

Internal peace and fulfillment are the two basic things we want. But we live our lives basically in opposition to peace and fulfillment because we resist life. If resistance to life was gone we would simply exist in peace and fulfillment because that is our essential nature.

Mindfulness and the joy of living

Mindfulness and the joy of living

Life was created for the expansion of bliss. This may be hard to believe because most of the time this is not your experience. Your nature is joy and it is the expression and expansion of your nature that is the reason you are here. Enjoying life is to be in alignment with your nature and your purpose.

Finding purpose in tragedy

Finding purpose in tragedy

I hold a belief that everything is perfect, divine. That belief gets challenged when things like Orlando shootings, refugees in Syria, the death of a loved one, divorce and starvation in the Sudan happen. What could possibly be even remotely positive about this? I have gone from profoundly sad to angry to trying to understand. It has brought up a great deal inside me.

3 Mindful Ways to Stop People-Hating

3 Mindful Ways to Stop People-Hating

I hate people.

No, you don’t. Or, maybe you think you do. If you are a member of the group known as “people haters,” may I ask you a question?

Can you hate people and love yourself?

I am not judging. This question comes from a place of love and curiosity because I am a recovering people-hater. Many times I have let the phrase, I hate people, roll off my tongue. It’s usually because I woke up on the wrong side of happy. Other times I may have found myself repeating this mantra because someone cut me off at a stoplight, let a door slam in my face, or even looked at me the wrong way. Saying that I hated people became as natural as breathing.

How to discover Who You Are

How to discover Who You Are

Who we are is always being reflected back to us in our interactions with others. We are only capable of seeing love in another if we experience that love in ourselves first. And the same goes for fear, anger, hatred, and judgement. Every person we meet is always evoking something within us. What we are seeing in the other is what is in us. Life is about projection and reflection. Our judgments of others are what is inside us.

Mindfulness and a busy mind

Mindfulness and a busy mind

What have you put into your mind? What have you fed your mind for years? What vibrations have you filled your mind with? You can feel them now reflected in the state of your mind; at peace or at war, calm or agitated, a clear, calm lake or a monkey mind. It is what it is and so you must look at how to shift it into a mind that functions naturally, in a way that is always supporting your fullest expression and expanded state.

How do I get out of a bad feeling place?

How do I get out of a bad feeling place?

When we are excluded, criticized, demeaned, abused, fired from a job or rejected, we feel fear, sadness, anger, guilt, shame & self-judgment. We don’t want to feel it. We generally have 2 responses 1) We push those feelings away and stuff them, or 2) we distract ourselves from them, grasping for relief by over-eating, drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, social media, and wide variety of unhealthy options. Our options habitually have been to push away or grasp, both of which create resistance. Resistance creates suffering. This resistance, our stuffing and avoiding, creates stress, a dissonant vibrational impression, vibrational density. Then we feel I am less than and separate. We create non-alignment with who we really are, and this creates dissonance. Our non-alignment and dissonance create a bad feeling place.
